Creating My Own Recipe

Hi all! Welcome to my final inquiry!

I will be answering my question of “How can I, as an unexperienced cook, learn to cook, then with my developed skills, create my own recipe by the end of the semester?”

I am happy to say that I have successfully created my own recipe throughout my cooking experience, even some of the first things I cooked, I did not follow a recipe. I mainly cooked through following my taste buds and gut feeling of what will and would not taste good. There were some foods that I did not like how it tasted. For example, my steak was way too salty. and it was honestly a learning curve to really enjoy the foods I made. However, what I am most proud of is my Tofu Kimchi Soup. For this, I cooked solely through looking at a picture. I made this 3 times since I first attempted at the recipe now, and I feel I have finally perfected it! I will be providing my recipe to this below. However, feel free to adjust the proportions based on how many servings you need. My recipe was made for 5 people and we had leftovers for the next day.

Recipe:

  • sesame oil to oil pot
  • 1 container of 900mL chicken broth (30% less salt)
  • 3 packs of defrosted frozen squid
  • 8 cups of kimchi
  • 1 pack of medium hard tofu
  • 3 tablespoons of Korean red pepper paste

Directions:

1.) In a large pot, add in the frozen squid and sesame oil on high heat

2.) As the squid starts to soften, add in chicken broth

3.) When broth starts to boil, add in kimchi and Korean red pepper paste (add in slowly depending on your spice tolerance)

4.) Finally add in the tofu and break it apart in soup

5.) Bring to medium heat and stir until everything is blended together

ENJOY!

Let me know if you try this recipe and what adjustments you made or if you have any suggestions 🙂

Overall, I have enjoyed my cooking adventures and will definitely continue cooking and improving my cooking skills!
