Canva Virtual Classroom!

This week in class we got to choose between so many different online activities that would help us to make our future classrooms more accessible for all our learners. I chose to do a Canva workshop! After going through the videos and readings that was provided, I decided to make my own virtual classroom!

I followed the steps in choosing a FREE virtual classroom template then went in and edited it to my liking (how I would like to set up my future classroom). Then, I decided to make a screencast tutorial video to teach you all how to make a virtual classroom using Canva for your future classroom!

To make this video, I was required to screen record my entire desktop and not just the tab using the chrome extension screencastify. To be honest, at first I clicked tab only and had to redo the whole recording because Canva opened the virtual classroom in another tab. So if you ever try to record something on screencastify remember to do your entire desktop haha! Overall, once I got the hang of using screencastify again, it was super easy and I just had to upload the video at the end! See video below.

I think this virtual classroom is great for both students and teachers. For example, we were in a world pandemic of COVID-19 for almost 3 years. During this time, having a virtual classroom would have been extremely nice for us students to have that realistic sense of school and classroom even if we were doing it from our bedroom. Not only is this useful for times such as world pandemics, but also if you are to have a teacher on call come in, you could provide them with a this virtual classroom visual of your own in-person classroom; this could also be sent out to parents at the beginning of the year so they could share with their child what their classroom will look like. This could help them to easily transition when coming into your classroom for the first time and so they have an idea of the setup/how things are supposed to look. Another great thing about this is that teachers are always rearranging their classrooms to find the best setup for themselves and their students, by creating a virtual classroom, teachers could easily move things around to see how it would look and if it would work for their class before going to physically move all the desks in person. Overall, I will definitely use Canva, especially virtual classrooms in my future classroom so teachers, students and their families can all succeed in class.

Would you use Canva virtual classrooms in your future teaching career?
