Sesame Chicken and Rice

This week I decided to make the Tiktok famous Sesame Chicken and Rice! I was scrolling through Tiktok when this Sesame Chicken recipe kept on popping up on my feed! It caught my attention immediately because it looked so delicious and juicy.

Below I have attached the Tiktok that inspired me!

First of all, I want you all to appreciate how good this Chicken and Rice meal looks in the Tiktok. Second, I want to say that being the innovative cook that I am, of course I did not follow the recipe. I honestly missed the orange part in the recipe completely and was way too excited for the actual sesame part. I always found chicken extremely hard to cook and sometimes eat because of how dry it can get! So, I decided I wanted my chicken to be extremely flavourful and basically drenched in Sesame sauce. When I went to the grocery store, I discovered that there is not really such a thing as “Sesame Sauce” or “Sesame Paste”. I decided to improvise! I bought a bottle of Yeshi Salad Dressing in the flavour “Ginger Sesame”.

Once I got home, I started to cook! I bought Chicken Breasts because I find them to be the least dry when cooked. I threw in a bunch of Soy Sauce, Sesame Oil, and almost half the bottle of Ginger Sesame Sauce (note, I was cooking for my family of 5 and you may not need this much sauce depending on portion sizes and how strong you want the flavour). After the chicken was cooked, I added in broccoli as my vegetable and used the remaining sauce in the pan to season it. I then put my rice, chicken and broccoli into a bowl and topped it off with a drizzle of Japanese Mayo!

Here is my final product:

Overall, I will say the meal was delicious and my family loved it because of the flavour. However, I don’t think it tasted how I was expecting it to taste. I wish it was less creamy, and more sesame tasting, but because the dressing I used had ginger in it, I think the ginger added spice to it which took away the sesame taste. I will make this again but I think I will try following the Tiktok recipe because it looked more like the taste I was hoping for over what I made (but mine was still delicious as well!!!!).

    Hi Meaghan,
I am so impressed by how your sesame chicken and rice turned out! I am totally the opposite of you, without a recipe my food would definitely not turn out! Your final product looks so delicious. I am a big fan of thick and creamy sauces, so I am sure I would have enjoyed your meal! Thanks:)

    Hi Meaghan,
Wow! This looks amazing, I have never made anything like this before (but that may just be because I don’t eat meat hahaha), but I still think this is really impressive.
I always see videos online of food I want to make, but I never actually follow through with it. I wonder how hard it would be to make your own sauce and if it would be worth the effort? Maybe this would take your cooking skills to the next level too!?!?!

    Meaghan!
This looks so good, I am not a chef at all so I am so impressed by how this turned out. I actually remember seeing this video on tik tok, so I loved seeing your take on it. Maybe next time I see a meal that catches my attention on tik tok I will try to make it! thanks 🙂
